My interests in international advocacy revolve around the intersection of indigenous rights and the environment, and how that impacts Māori and Pacific diaspora communities here in Aotearoa and across the pacific. I have been actively organising at the international level since the year 2000 working with peoples movements, NGOs and UN agencies. My engagement with UN processes began with the World Conference Against Racism 2001 (Durban - South Africa ) where I was supporting advocacy groups to attend a convergence of movements mobilising against neo-liberalism in Bolivia. I was also privileged to work on the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples at the intercessional meeting in 2003 and from 2009-2011 I was based in the Science sector at UNESCO in Paris. In 2015 I was the pacific media focal point for the Indigenous Peoples caucus my role involved organising Pacific Day at the IP Pavilion and helping to organise actions outside the venue. My international advocacy has also included delivering capacity building workshops which has included being able to work with rainforest communities in the Solomon Islands, Brazil and Borneo.
